Santa Hats are here!

A few years ago I loved the Santa Hats that Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick made!  I have wanted to make them ever since, but as Sarah can attest, when you have someone in Marching Band, your life is not yours in the fall!  Since DD graduated in June I have had much more free time so the Santa Hats were first on my list to make!
So off to Joann's I went last week to gather supplies.  I found everything but the square rhinestones, and getting them was a challenge.  After going to 3 Joann's and 2 Michaels and being told that 'we have them they are in the back, but we can't get to them now cause Christmas comes first', I thought what is up with that!  Doesn't the customer always come first!  Anyway I digress, I went back to my local Joann's and talked to a wonderful Julia who went in the back and spent 5 minutes getting them for me!  Awesome!!!
So here are my supplies.
I found a cool red panne velvet that is like a crushed velvet, black vinyl that has a pattern on it and my cones and rhinestones!
Here I am rolling the cone on the velvet to cut, then just hot glue along the seam line, trim the top and bottom and glue the edges.  Here is my first hat:
I will have to say the hardest part was the vinyl.  Since you are working on a cone, it doesn't lie flat, so you have to take your time working it around.
While at Joann's I was looking for a tray and found one in the clearance aisle.  Of course I forgot to take a before pic, but here is a during.  It is metal and had different color panels, I primed with 2 coats, then sprayed black.  I love how it turned out.
And here they are my Santa Hats in all their glory.  I think this is the earliest I have had Christmas decorations up in a long time.  I already had some small ornaments from last year, then went to Targeh and got a pack of them for $5, which I didn't use all of them.

Hope you like them on to my next project!

Toodles,
Laura
