Here is that post: <a href="http://laurmelashouse.blogspot.com/2010/06/classic-banner.html">Classic Banner</a>. Well it has seen better days.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_eQeZMRJRBw/VZWoo1_wqGI/AAAAAAAADDI/57lEzRbON4g/s1600/IMG_3189.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_eQeZMRJRBw/VZWoo1_wqGI/AAAAAAAADDI/57lEzRbON4g/s320/IMG_3189.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
So I decided to make a new one! Again I used recycled denim, toile, and a few remnants I had lying around. Since my cricut was buried, I decided to leave off the lettering, but added a fun ribbon accent. I just used the old one as a pattern and cut out my red, white and blue fabrics. Then I took a quick seam at the top so I could string them on twine. I reused the beads from before, and then tied various red, white an blue ribbons in between each flag. Love how it turned out.<br />
<br />

I have a whole board that is dedicated to 'Things to do'! Well last week I saw this on <a href="http://todayscreativeblog.net/diy-mason-jar-solar-lights/">Today's Creative Blog</a>.<br />
<br />
These cool Mason Jar Solar lights made with the ever so cool Krylon Looking Glass Paint!<br />
<br />
Here is my finished product<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6YUJzEZ4GlQ/U6N_O-cyOrI/AAAAAAAADAc/avrY3zUSGBE/s1600/IMG_1555.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6YUJzEZ4GlQ/U6N_O-cyOrI/AAAAAAAADAc/avrY3zUSGBE/s1600/IMG_1555.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
They are easy peasy, really!<br />
<br />
Just go to your nearest Joann's, I say this cause you can use a coupon to get the paint for 50% off if that is the coupon that is out. I paid $7.50 for this little can!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NXjyrGJGaj0/U6N_iT4SZ4I/AAAAAAAADAk/9Q86saZeyjg/s1600/IMG_1529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NXjyrGJGaj0/U6N_iT4SZ4I/AAAAAAAADAk/9Q86saZeyjg/s1600/IMG_1529.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Yup it is regularly $14.99 a can! See that is why you need to buy it with a coupon!<br />
<br />
Then head to Lowes or HD or Walmart, which ever your preference and buy the cheapest solar lights! Now I measured the diameter of my jars so I could make sure the lights would fit.<br />
<br />
Here is the ones I got at Lowes:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A28jlh3DnTc/U6N_8TKf1bI/AAAAAAAADAs/1bCV7nk9LtU/s1600/IMG_1527.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A28jlh3DnTc/U6N_8TKf1bI/AAAAAAAADAs/1bCV7nk9LtU/s1600/IMG_1527.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
They were $2.98 each. I bought 3, for my 3 jars.<br />
<br />
I had 2 larger and one small jar to spray, plus I added one of the Bath and Bodyworks Candle jars that I had been saving for a project like this.<br />
<br />
Here is what you do! Mix in a clean spray bottle equal amounts of water and white vinegar. I used 2/3 a cup of each. I set up a spray station on the patio table by using brown paper to set them on. I tried both ways spray on the vinegar first then the paint, or paint and the vinegar. I preferred the result with the paint first then vinegar. I also spray the outside in case I want to use the jar later for a vase!<br />
<br />
So you spray the jar with the paint in short light burst of paint, not too much or it will run. You don't want that! Then when you get it to the coverage you want spray on the vinegar. Then with a damp paper towel, blot the droplets. That gives you the effect of the mercury glass.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VV-e6oUtq4k/U6OA_-dYMkI/AAAAAAAADA4/CxB7ZKu_piA/s1600/IMG_1538.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VV-e6oUtq4k/U6OA_-dYMkI/AAAAAAAADA4/CxB7ZKu_piA/s1600/IMG_1538.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here it is after spraying on the vinegar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zhr5zIidfOU/U6OBEOo35KI/AAAAAAAADBA/n6-yZaQ010Q/s1600/IMG_1539.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zhr5zIidfOU/U6OBEOo35KI/AAAAAAAADBA/n6-yZaQ010Q/s1600/IMG_1539.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then after blotting.</div>
<br />
I really loved how they turned out and it was so easy! I decided to spray paint the jar lids, just the circle part black, so the lights blended with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iC9pzNVI6wQ/U6OBhAtEHaI/AAAAAAAADBI/k1II6aPpYfI/s1600/IMG_1542.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iC9pzNVI6wQ/U6OBhAtEHaI/AAAAAAAADBI/k1II6aPpYfI/s1600/IMG_1542.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oaHomjbFRo0/U6OBnWVlySI/AAAAAAAADBQ/O9_1JkWrUCA/s1600/IMG_1543.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oaHomjbFRo0/U6OBnWVlySI/AAAAAAAADBQ/O9_1JkWrUCA/s1600/IMG_1543.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Sorry I haven't been able to get a good pic of them lit up at night, but they do work great! I need to do some more of the BBW jars for storage. Pics of that to come.<br />
<br />
Hope you enjoy this fun easy project.<br />

Using yard stakes !<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rOiIJzQeyhg/U58pSEo3w3I/AAAAAAAAC_A/-h_tQO3VWCM/s1600/IMG_1616.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rOiIJzQeyhg/U58pSEo3w3I/AAAAAAAAC_A/-h_tQO3VWCM/s1600/IMG_1616.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
It is hung here like a wind chime, but we shall see. DH has already ran into it!<br />
<br />
Anyway when I told my idea to DH and DD, they both wanted to help, so to Lowes we went. I had already bought the Red, White and Blue spray paint at Joann's the day before using coupons. Note: when doing this use paint out of a can or jar. This is raw wood and the spray paint just gets soaked up. I guess we could have primed first, but it still would have used a lot of spray paint. Plus we wanted it to be rustic and have some of the wood showing through.<br />
<br />
So here is what we got: A bundle of yard stakes, they were around $11 for 25. Sorry I can't find the receipt! They are 36" long and about 2" wide. I sanded them first as they are real rough.<br />
Then we found a board that was 48"x 7 1/4" this was cut down into 4 pieces. 4 packs of eye hooks and 4 packs of cup hooks. These are used to connect the stakes to the wood. Then I found chip board stars at Joann's they were .27 each.<br />
<br />
Ok here we go!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RkwWu7LcX6E/U58qUKbv55I/AAAAAAAAC_c/lQBVC7F_-r4/s1600/IMG_1553.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RkwWu7LcX6E/U58qUKbv55I/AAAAAAAAC_c/lQBVC7F_-r4/s1600/IMG_1553.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is a pic of the hooks we used. DH drilled the holes, then we screwed them in before painting. This way they get painted the same color as the board. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r3-4yv5jApw/U58qNnNSRBI/AAAAAAAAC_I/uaBFiQQAXb4/s1600/IMG_1549.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r3-4yv5jApw/U58qNnNSRBI/AAAAAAAAC_I/uaBFiQQAXb4/s1600/IMG_1549.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
This pic shows DD sanding and DH is on the ground laying it out to measure for the cup hooks!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IXOf7fNArD8/U58qQUhziGI/AAAAAAAAC_U/5uWm4RSXnzE/s1600/IMG_1551.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IXOf7fNArD8/U58qQUhziGI/AAAAAAAAC_U/5uWm4RSXnzE/s1600/IMG_1551.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We then layed a tarp out on the patio so we could paint the stakes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-luh9OyhORNQ/U58qZ2Qe_sI/AAAAAAAAC_k/6WJkm8bKhs0/s1600/IMG_1556.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-luh9OyhORNQ/U58qZ2Qe_sI/AAAAAAAAC_k/6WJkm8bKhs0/s1600/IMG_1556.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is the white stakes, white stars and blue board. You can see we had also painted the red stakes!<br />
<br />
After a few coats of paint on both sides, they are ready to be ensembled.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-89OQ9QHnVBY/U58sUlfvmWI/AAAAAAAAC_s/No-O1BHQNvw/s1600/IMG_1558.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-89OQ9QHnVBY/U58sUlfvmWI/AAAAAAAAC_s/No-O1BHQNvw/s1600/IMG_1558.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
First I glued the stars to the blue background. I had sanded the edges a little to give it some character.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-19EycozRjXQ/U58sZD6Q5VI/AAAAAAAAC_0/6Q8u9K9u9_A/s1600/IMG_1617.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-19EycozRjXQ/U58sZD6Q5VI/AAAAAAAAC_0/6Q8u9K9u9_A/s1600/IMG_1617.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Then you can hang the stakes/stripes from the bottom of the board. We put the eye hooks on the blue, and the cup hooks on the stakes/stripes. It would probably work either way! I also put to eye hooks on the top of the blue to use for hanging. I just used a double wrap of twine, but you could use chain or ribbon. It is sort of heavy, so make sure what you use will support it. <br />
<br />
And the finished flag.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xy5Mx2Kvvec/U58s50Lh3pI/AAAAAAAAC_8/TxDajzzpddY/s1600/IMG_1562.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xy5Mx2Kvvec/U58s50Lh3pI/AAAAAAAAC_8/TxDajzzpddY/s1600/IMG_1562.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This is my Father In Law's hanging from his back patio.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AceWhqekwzM/U58s-mAcdhI/AAAAAAAADAE/eXeYiodElEY/s1600/IMG_1619.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AceWhqekwzM/U58s-mAcdhI/AAAAAAAADAE/eXeYiodElEY/s1600/IMG_1619.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
This is ours. I really love how it turned out. A little rustic but still very patriotic. <br />
<br />
<br />
Have you decorated with Red, White and Blue yet? Love to see pics.<br />

We happened to stop by that day and came home with a few treasures! This cool aluminum bowl was one of them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ifvup8LbWg0/U4-zbOoEg9I/AAAAAAAAC40/LOSz6UpoYLM/s1600/IMG_1479.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ifvup8LbWg0/U4-zbOoEg9I/AAAAAAAAC40/LOSz6UpoYLM/s1600/IMG_1479.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Don't know what it was originally used for, but I saw a hanging planter as it's new use!<br />
<br />
So last weekend, DH and I headed to Lowes to get the supplies. Basically just some chain and a caribener to hang it with! Also picked up some succulents and soil.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IicP9rzMSEU/U4-z1X8YpAI/AAAAAAAAC48/7t-ARwowPbw/s1600/IMG_1480.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IicP9rzMSEU/U4-z1X8YpAI/AAAAAAAAC48/7t-ARwowPbw/s1600/IMG_1480.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
The plants got a little smooshed as the bag of soil fell on them when walking back to car! No comment as to who stood the soil bag upright in the cart, cough, cough. <br />
Anyway, DH went to work on drilling the holes in the rim of the bowl for the chain and I patiently waited to plant the plants! <br />
<br />
Here is the finished product! Love it! The glass globe is a left over from a bamboo chime we have. The rope around it broke, but the glass didn't! <br />
<br />

Can't wait to fill out a little and do it's 'thrill and spill'. So easy to plant and maintain succulents, plus I always try to find one that blooms. That would be the one to the left of the globe, it has a bloom coming of of it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IrT0Summ_Iw/U4-06N9yo2I/AAAAAAAAC5c/c3tXsPQiC2s/s1600/IMG_1489.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IrT0Summ_Iw/U4-06N9yo2I/AAAAAAAAC5c/c3tXsPQiC2s/s1600/IMG_1489.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
The donkey tail I just cut from a plant we already have, cut the stem at an angle and just poke into the soil. Probably not the best or right way to do it, but it works! <br />
<br />
What have you recycled lately?<br />

Proud to display our countries colors during this patriotic time of year!<br />
I usually start decorating around Memorial Day and don't take it down till Labor day! These are a few of the projects I have made over the years. My <a href="http://laurmelashouse.blogspot.com/2010/06/classic-banner.html">Banner</a> I made 4 years ago, still using it but it is a little faded! Then I made some cool <a href="http://laurmelashouse.blogspot.com/2012/06/flag-art.html">Flag Art</a>. That is up all year!<br />
<br />
Here is a pic from years past!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T53m3FiQojM/T9uHYwgOHhI/AAAAAAAABFM/EcowLgunQfM/s1600/100_3849.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T53m3FiQojM/T9uHYwgOHhI/AAAAAAAABFM/EcowLgunQfM/s1600/100_3849.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
So this year wanted to do something different! I had seen these cute mason jar lanterns and wanted to used them in the design. So here is my inspiration:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NBsWUI9ZvFI/U4TMapanXII/AAAAAAAAC2M/d7MA17_i4M0/s1600/DSC_7766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NBsWUI9ZvFI/U4TMapanXII/AAAAAAAAC2M/d7MA17_i4M0/s1600/DSC_7766.JPG" /></a></div>
This is from <a href="http://thriftyvintagekitchen.blogspot.com/2011/08/im-back.html">Thrifty Vintage Kitchen</a>. I believe she used them as decorations at her wedding! How fun is that! <br />
<br />
So I took that idea and ran with it. I wanted mine to hang, so here is what I did.<br />
<br />
These are the supplies you will need:<br />
mason jar, I used different sizes and colors<br />
twine/rope, you can use what you have around the house, that is what I did! Used 2 different kinds.<br />
flags, I got mine in a 3 pack from Target dollar section!<br />
sand, didn't know it was so hard to find a small bag of sand!<br />
votive candles <br />
<br />
I first used rope/twine to wrap around the lip of the jar 4 or five times, then tie it off tight!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4UzR9RDQUUQ/U4TNctWJMBI/AAAAAAAAC2c/VnNCRFtsk5k/s1600/IMG_1440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4UzR9RDQUUQ/U4TNctWJMBI/AAAAAAAAC2c/VnNCRFtsk5k/s1600/IMG_1440.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Then I cut a piece of the same rope/twine in a length I wanted it to hang from. Wove it under the rope I had just wrapped around. Make sure you get it under at least 2 or 3 pieces of the rope. Then knot off tight! Do the same to the other side making sure they are equally spaced or it won't hand right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PYdVgqFl05U/U4TNq0_hi4I/AAAAAAAAC2s/7slOPRRqjnY/s1600/IMG_1455.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PYdVgqFl05U/U4TNq0_hi4I/AAAAAAAAC2s/7slOPRRqjnY/s1600/IMG_1455.jpg" height="320" width="240" /> </a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I got out my package of flags. They are just attached to the stick with a staple, so you can easily get it off. Now you can tea stain if you want or just leave as is. I left as is. Here is a pic of the package. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BpuJUkcKFn8/U4TNleeDZKI/AAAAAAAAC2k/WahzTW3aNeI/s1600/IMG_1436.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BpuJUkcKFn8/U4TNleeDZKI/AAAAAAAAC2k/WahzTW3aNeI/s1600/IMG_1436.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Now you can use a drop of hot glue at each corner of the flag to adhere it to the glass, or just lay it flat and start wrapping around the string/rope. That is what I did.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DbqUPUClw2g/U4TO_vnKEOI/AAAAAAAAC24/IQ5KhUXataw/s1600/IMG_1432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DbqUPUClw2g/U4TO_vnKEOI/AAAAAAAAC24/IQ5KhUXataw/s1600/IMG_1432.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OrAtBTWrjDU/U4TPCopiqlI/AAAAAAAAC3A/lt1IlYrwxU0/s1600/IMG_1433.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OrAtBTWrjDU/U4TPCopiqlI/AAAAAAAAC3A/lt1IlYrwxU0/s1600/IMG_1433.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is one of the large jars I used. Hard to see but it is a jar from DH's grandmother from 1976. It says 1776-1976 on it. I actually have 2 of them!<br />
<br />
Then you just add some sand to weight it down and push in a votive!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-212LNg7LHEg/U4TPK8ZHAeI/AAAAAAAAC3U/02T4Yd8lej0/s1600/IMG_1444.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-212LNg7LHEg/U4TPK8ZHAeI/AAAAAAAAC3U/02T4Yd8lej0/s1600/IMG_1444.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
I had a hanging chandelier frame from an old hummingbird feeder that I hung them from but they can be hung from a patio, trees or hooks, what ever you have around. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NffQuOja4WA/U4TPFSfrupI/AAAAAAAAC3M/0zhsRS6MuJk/s1600/IMG_1448.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NffQuOja4WA/U4TPFSfrupI/AAAAAAAAC3M/0zhsRS6MuJk/s1600/IMG_1448.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D5m4HkIEDOQ/U4TPs5impMI/AAAAAAAAC3Y/RkKNh_-LoU8/s1600/IMG_1453.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D5m4HkIEDOQ/U4TPs5impMI/AAAAAAAAC3Y/RkKNh_-LoU8/s1600/IMG_1453.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uiHRLXfPnkY/U4TPv_Ekg4I/AAAAAAAAC3g/z2Dx4qBnjC0/s1600/IMG_1454.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uiHRLXfPnkY/U4TPv_Ekg4I/AAAAAAAAC3g/z2Dx4qBnjC0/s1600/IMG_1454.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

<br />
I love how they turned out. Will just check the knots from time to time to make sure they are still tight! Can't wait to use them for our annual summer soiree!<br />
<br />
Hope you like my patriotic lantern!<br />
<br />
Have a great week.<br />

</div>
Back in March of 2011 I did a post about a bag I made using recycled jeans. You can find it <a href="http://laurmelashouse.blogspot.com/2011/03/finally.html">here</a>.<br />
This is a pic of the one I am making today!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RYGQeEKylqs/U2qJPMtbX-I/AAAAAAAAC18/u0PtsdeaG1c/s1600/IMG_1353.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RYGQeEKylqs/U2qJPMtbX-I/AAAAAAAAC18/u0PtsdeaG1c/s1600/IMG_1353.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
I used a pattern by Nancy Ota who is a wonderful seamstress and quilter. I don't want to take away from her, this is just a few tips I have learned from making this bag a few times! The size I made in 2011 is the medium, I am using the small size for this. Here is the material list:<br />
<br />
Pet screen fabric<br />
1/4 fabric for outside pocket<br />
1/4 fabric for lining of outside pocket<br />
1/3 yard fabric for inside pocket<br />
1/8 yard fabric for bottom support cover<br />
14" separating zipper<br />
cardboard bottom support<br />
<br />
You are using pet screen fabric as the base for the bag. I found mine at Lowes, here is a pic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9fDqvnqg6FQ/U2puwX-X6pI/AAAAAAAACvI/s1McKyqSpHA/s1600/IMG_1297.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9fDqvnqg6FQ/U2puwX-X6pI/AAAAAAAACvI/s1McKyqSpHA/s1600/IMG_1297.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
It is a big roll and you can get quite a few bags out of it. So far I have cut out 2 small and one medium with straps and still have a bunch left.<br />
<br />
For this bag you need a piece 14 x 23". I use my cutting board to lay out the fabric and use the markings to cut it. You will also need to cut a piece 2 1/2 x 26" for each strap. I usually cut one piece 5 x 26" then use my rotary cutter to cut it in half!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aYhNL8ycpvk/U2pvJL2KkeI/AAAAAAAACvQ/_Vv1gA8aoMg/s1600/IMG_1316.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aYhNL8ycpvk/U2pvJL2KkeI/AAAAAAAACvQ/_Vv1gA8aoMg/s1600/IMG_1316.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Sorry my cutting board is real old, like 30 years! I think I used it to cut out my wedding dress!<br />
<br />
Once you have your screen fabric cut it is on to the purse fabric. I decided I was going to use recycled jeans for this project. I save them when my kids outgrow or just decided they don't like that style! For the price of jeans, it is nice to give them a second life!<br />
<br />
For the small bag you need 2 pieces 7 x 15". I wanted to incorporate a seam in there as well. When you are sewing with denim, make sure your machine will go through the thickness and that you have a denim or leather needle. Here are my pieces cut out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iEfzjgAIzgU/U2pv6-jmQrI/AAAAAAAACvc/smqqQQt-fN4/s1600/IMG_1301.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iEfzjgAIzgU/U2pv6-jmQrI/AAAAAAAACvc/smqqQQt-fN4/s1600/IMG_1301.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The seam is a little off center but that is how I like it. I then decided I wanted to add a pocket. I just cut the pocket off another pair of jeans and added it on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8CPesBE-uow/U2pv-_2CQqI/AAAAAAAACvo/7OH56SRg5pQ/s1600/IMG_1302.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8CPesBE-uow/U2pv-_2CQqI/AAAAAAAACvo/7OH56SRg5pQ/s1600/IMG_1302.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Need to make sure you leave enough room at the top and bottom to add your piping. Also be sure you have enough room at the side for the side seams with out catching the pocket.<br />
<br />
For the lining of this piece and the inside pockets I picket out a fun colorful cotton fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g5yVzkTbEmo/U2qBAOXMghI/AAAAAAAAC1I/9HkU84xhjzk/s1600/IMG_1300.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g5yVzkTbEmo/U2qBAOXMghI/AAAAAAAAC1I/9HkU84xhjzk/s1600/IMG_1300.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
From this you need to cut out 2 10 1/2 x 15" pieces for the inside pocket and 2 7 x15" pieces for the lining. The 10 1/2 pieces you will fold in half length wise, right sides together and take a 1/4" seam. Iron the seam open then turn right side out. Press and then top stitch the side that you will be using for the top of the pocket.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yZ2o_wVD3xs/U2pwFDFz5DI/AAAAAAAACvw/fMcrLB173ds/s1600/IMG_1303.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yZ2o_wVD3xs/U2pwFDFz5DI/AAAAAAAACvw/fMcrLB173ds/s1600/IMG_1303.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the seam before I pressed it open. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lXEuKYGY05Y/U2pxfZ1I2LI/AAAAAAAACwA/gAVACRMTsP8/s1600/IMG_1308.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lXEuKYGY05Y/U2pxfZ1I2LI/AAAAAAAACwA/gAVACRMTsP8/s1600/IMG_1308.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is after pressing and with the top stitch.</div>
<br />
When you are done with the inside pockets set them aside, we can begin work on the outside! Here is where you can have some fun. We need to add piping to the front pieces. I like to pull a color from the lining to give it interest. Here I decided on the pink!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TWgW7nQZh8M/U2px_4CfruI/AAAAAAAACwI/ohcwo8fwN7E/s1600/IMG_1306.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TWgW7nQZh8M/U2px_4CfruI/AAAAAAAACwI/ohcwo8fwN7E/s1600/IMG_1306.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Pin the piping to the top and bottom of the denim piece. You need to use a zipper foot for this to get right up against the piping. After you have sewn that onto both denim pieces you then will sew the lining onto it right sides together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_GOKJqGFxfo/U2pyIVxyeVI/AAAAAAAACwc/LbjNpv6za-M/s1600/IMG_1309.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_GOKJqGFxfo/U2pyIVxyeVI/AAAAAAAACwc/LbjNpv6za-M/s1600/IMG_1309.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is a pic of it after I have sewn it, you can see the piping and denim, like a sandwich! Once you have sewn both top and bottom of both side you can turn and press.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H9mB7QCJYaE/U2pyK9R1GnI/AAAAAAAACwk/5COaY4JrrUU/s1600/IMG_1312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H9mB7QCJYaE/U2pyK9R1GnI/AAAAAAAACwk/5COaY4JrrUU/s1600/IMG_1312.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is now the outside of your bag! </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Now we are going to attach it to the screen fabric. Suprisingly it is real easy to work with.<br />
I lay my fabric over my cutting board so I can see the markings underneath. You will need to mark nine inches down from the top. This is where you will attach the bottom of the inside pocket. Just take a small 1/4 " seam.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mSJPgkeh3To/U2p0Mru1OJI/AAAAAAAACxM/vxliEniwmdM/s1600/IMG_1318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mSJPgkeh3To/U2p0Mru1OJI/AAAAAAAACxM/vxliEniwmdM/s1600/IMG_1318.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YD2CsvjFJUw/U2p0edeBNRI/AAAAAAAACxc/_thlC49vcjY/s1600/IMG_1319.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YD2CsvjFJUw/U2p0edeBNRI/AAAAAAAACxc/_thlC49vcjY/s1600/IMG_1319.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This is the bottom of the pocket on the inside. It helps to pin the sides and top to the screening so it will stay in place. Now turn the screen fabric over we are going to attach the front. This time you need to measure down 10".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3ccQ9ALbY0U/U2p01p4XB5I/AAAAAAAACxk/alUiAcJBkGs/s1600/IMG_1320.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3ccQ9ALbY0U/U2p01p4XB5I/AAAAAAAACxk/alUiAcJBkGs/s1600/IMG_1320.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Again you will take a small seam, I usually use the piping as a guide. Once you have this done, baste the sides, the inside pocket and front to the screen fabric. Now we will add the pocket seam!<br />
<br />
When you are all basted and secured, measure the center of the bag, should be 7 inches from the sides. This will be your seam to make a pocket on the inside and outside! Make sure the inside pocket is pinned and caught up when you sew! I marked with chalk and then used pins to guide me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ajeYugAK2Bg/U2p1jxoNjfI/AAAAAAAACxs/rrO0LmqHs04/s1600/IMG_1326.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ajeYugAK2Bg/U2p1jxoNjfI/AAAAAAAACxs/rrO0LmqHs04/s1600/IMG_1326.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
When I am sewing the seam I reinforce the top and bottom by going back and forth over the seam. Once you get to the bottom of the one side after you have reinforced, just lift your pressure foot and move to the bottom of the other side! Saves time and thread!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lOxweo7e7Fk/U2p1n0oxirI/AAAAAAAACx4/ghAcIu-9cYA/s1600/IMG_1327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lOxweo7e7Fk/U2p1n0oxirI/AAAAAAAACx4/ghAcIu-9cYA/s1600/IMG_1327.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Now you have 4 pockets on the outside, plus the ones we added, and 4 on the inside! Love pockets!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uzmv6jjJNgE/U2p1r-e11KI/AAAAAAAACyA/OI-yYqnGkGo/s1600/IMG_1329.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uzmv6jjJNgE/U2p1r-e11KI/AAAAAAAACyA/OI-yYqnGkGo/s1600/IMG_1329.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O6FZ32E1ong/U2p230F108I/AAAAAAAACyM/SX2R8t6CO-A/s1600/IMG_1328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O6FZ32E1ong/U2p230F108I/AAAAAAAACyM/SX2R8t6CO-A/s1600/IMG_1328.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Now we need to work on the straps. If you cut just the one piece 5 x 26" you will need to fold that in half and cut at 2 1/2" so you have to pieces for the straps. Take one piece and fold from each side to the center legnthwise.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jme_QiKHA0A/U2p3QjrZGOI/AAAAAAAACyU/o2ZLULIZe40/s1600/IMG_1263.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jme_QiKHA0A/U2p3QjrZGOI/AAAAAAAACyU/o2ZLULIZe40/s1600/IMG_1263.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vxSmOuh29XE/U2p3Tz-N1qI/AAAAAAAACyc/4geZEmcZQPk/s1600/IMG_1264.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vxSmOuh29XE/U2p3Tz-N1qI/AAAAAAAACyc/4geZEmcZQPk/s1600/IMG_1264.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Pin as you go along, do this for both straps. I then use a zig zag stitch to sew these together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ihHD2-qP6zM/U2p3XeI6MbI/AAAAAAAACyk/rYx8O1BpFz0/s1600/IMG_1265.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ihHD2-qP6zM/U2p3XeI6MbI/AAAAAAAACyk/rYx8O1BpFz0/s1600/IMG_1265.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is one sewn. Now you are going to fold that in half, with the seam on the inside. You need to leave 4" on each end open. This is where it will attach to the purse. I usually fold this as I am sewing, having a ruler handy to measure my ends!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E9yUOxVdJe0/U2p3bdW1YMI/AAAAAAAACys/aYViz-piJSI/s1600/IMG_1266.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E9yUOxVdJe0/U2p3bdW1YMI/AAAAAAAACys/aYViz-piJSI/s1600/IMG_1266.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFjMZS3xFkE/U2p4AagvKKI/AAAAAAAACy0/vdobeijCW-M/s1600/IMG_1267.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZFjMZS3xFkE/U2p4AagvKKI/AAAAAAAACy0/vdobeijCW-M/s1600/IMG_1267.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Once you have the straps done, you need to attach to the bag. So first you need to find the center of the bag, 7 ", then you will be placing the straps 3" off center each way and 2" down from the top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9BMcs7qJMIc/U2p4GWf1KzI/AAAAAAAACzI/gjTyM7aEh4s/s1600/IMG_1332.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9BMcs7qJMIc/U2p4GWf1KzI/AAAAAAAACzI/gjTyM7aEh4s/s1600/IMG_1332.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hard to see, but that is the strap pinned to the bag. Right side to right side. Take a small 1/8" seam, I usually go over it a few times for strength. Then turn the strap up towards the top of the bag and pin. You then will be sewing the strap to the bag making a box about 1" then an X through the box. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MKWl7jB2aAw/U2p4MZdxP6I/AAAAAAAACzY/mBNXJvYpwbM/s1600/IMG_1334.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MKWl7jB2aAw/U2p4MZdxP6I/AAAAAAAACzY/mBNXJvYpwbM/s1600/IMG_1334.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
You can see in the pic how I have sewn the strap on. You don't want to go much more than 1" or you will get in the way of the zipper! Sew all the strap ends like this!<br />
<br />
Now we need to attach the zipper. I am going to refer to the directions for this, cause I always have to reread them when I am doing this! You need a 14" separating zipper for this size. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qrD8yHuzp1s/U2p720HbFRI/AAAAAAAACzk/VeOLw-Dl9SQ/s1600/IMG_1349.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qrD8yHuzp1s/U2p720HbFRI/AAAAAAAACzk/VeOLw-Dl9SQ/s1600/IMG_1349.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Sorry for the small print, I will try to sum it up. Pin the zipper to the outside edge of the purse like the first pic of the directions. Right side to right side. (1) Using your zipper foot sew the zipper to the bag. Then open the zipper and sew again closer to the zipper. Then fold the bag over so the inside is facing out and pin the other side of the zipper to that top edge. (2) Sew. Once both sides are sewn to the bag, unzip the zipper completely, you are going to fold back the screen away from the zipper and top stitch. (3)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

I hope that is clear. I know sometimes I need to reread something and even try to work it out in my head first. Trust me it does work!<br />
<br />
Once you have done all that, re zip the zipper about 1/3 of the way closed. You are now going to sew the side seams! Pin your sides together right side to right side with the straps inside, taking the time to make sure the piping and fabric all match. You should sew from the bottom up, so turn and pin the other side so you can do that. The pins will be on opposite sides. You are going to sew a 1/2" seam. Take your time as you sew through all the layers. On the side with the end of the zipper, sew as far up as you can. On the side with the zipper opened, once you get up to the edge fold over the ends of the zipper so it is wrong side to wrong side. This will finish it off.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oJYIWyte4e0/U2p-Hrm5oSI/AAAAAAAAC0E/AlHZa837u6U/s1600/IMG_1340.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oJYIWyte4e0/U2p-Hrm5oSI/AAAAAAAAC0E/AlHZa837u6U/s1600/IMG_1340.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is one side pinned and ready to go!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now that your sides are done you need to finish them off. The pattern calls for double fold bias tape, but I found a nice lightweight ribbon that works great. I just fold over the ends and zig zag up the seam to the top. Nice and finished.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zoybjBz8yiw/U2p-KYVKhzI/AAAAAAAAC0Q/j0hQyChYG1o/s1600/IMG_1341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zoybjBz8yiw/U2p-KYVKhzI/AAAAAAAAC0Q/j0hQyChYG1o/s1600/IMG_1341.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the ribbon I found at JoAnns. Hopefully they still carry it, I need more!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Almost done! We need to box in the corners. This is just pulling the corners taught to a triangle and sewing along the edge. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MIPTfKHh1S8/U2p_CfT3suI/AAAAAAAAC0k/5OhvgpovoHw/s1600/IMG_1342.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MIPTfKHh1S8/U2p_CfT3suI/AAAAAAAAC0k/5OhvgpovoHw/s1600/IMG_1342.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
As you can see I use the zipper foot for this! Makes it easy to get nice and tight. Now you can turn your bag right side out! Be sure to get in there and push all the seams out. Admire your work! Your did it!<br />

The only thing left to do is the bottom support. I like to use heavy duty card board, so save your boxes. Of course I can't find any right now, but I have a pic from another one!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You need to measure your bottom of your bag to get the right measurements. Once you do that cut the cardboard and fit it in. Sometimes you need to adjust a little to get it to fit right. Once you have the right fit, you can make your 'pillowcase' for the cardboard. That is really what it is! Leave enough along one edge so you can fold the edges inside. Here is a pic from another one I did using cardboard from a Bath and Body Works Box! i didn't cover it cause I liked the gingham!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
Hope you enjoy this bag. There are other sizes you can make as well, the one I originally did was the medium size. If you want the measurements just let me know, the sewing is the same.<br />
<br />
I always add a fun zipper fob! You can find cute doo dads at Joann's, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Walmart... <br />

I really enjoy it and we have fun making rag quilts for the baby shower at our local Marine base! Well part of that is having and wearing pins, patriotic and such. I just had them in a drawer, but wanted something to store them in and have it easy to travel for conferences and stuff. </span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I stumbled across this <a href="http://www.gwennypenny.com/2011/12/travel-jewelry-organizer-tutorial.html">Jewelry Case</a> pattern on pinterest, and voila an idea was born!</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">It is real easy and not hard to do at all! You just need to gather all your supplies and you will be done in no time. I adjusted by not adding the snap, just made it a ribbon tie. Here are a few pics from the first one I did.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s1JQ60clbBM/U07P209Up5I/AAAAAAAACuc/81AC4vwtqVk/s1600/IMG_0935.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s1JQ60clbBM/U07P209Up5I/AAAAAAAACuc/81AC4vwtqVk/s1600/IMG_0935.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> As you can see this one is 8x13 inches. You use 3 9 inch zippers, the vinyl is real easy to work with.</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NrZvQdNnooc/U07PuBdAt1I/AAAAAAAACuY/7qHg8r-QqQ0/s1600/IMG_0939.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NrZvQdNnooc/U07PuBdAt1I/AAAAAAAACuY/7qHg8r-QqQ0/s1600/IMG_0939.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">I found this awesome ribbon at Michaels on clearance, too bad there was only one!</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Since then I have made a few more, making them wider to accomadate many of the lineage society ribbons. </span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Here are a few pics!</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jKxMQ4StdSg/U07QpzaMoRI/AAAAAAAACus/sxXR_JQsHkI/s1600/IMG_1016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jKxMQ4StdSg/U07QpzaMoRI/AAAAAAAACus/sxXR_JQsHkI/s1600/IMG_1016.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">It has been a lot of fun picking out the fabrics, ribbons and zipper pulls. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Off to sew!</span></span></div>

Only took 35 days! Between the sciatica and now a dog with a pulled neck muscle, life has been crazy! Finally calming down, I hope!<br />
<br />
Anyway, I had this bag I got at Target a few years ago. I loved that it was an over the shoulder bag and I always take it to the flea market so my hands are free. Well I have found myself using it more and more, there is only one problem, the fabric. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u3sYUaFIJW4/Ua_KjvnVHeI/AAAAAAAACs0/tF7sqeWcxMU/s1600/13+-+7" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u3sYUaFIJW4/Ua_KjvnVHeI/AAAAAAAACs0/tF7sqeWcxMU/s400/13+-+7" width="300" /></a></div>
Doesn't exactly go with my wardrobe! So I thought I could make one, I mean it is just a sack shape with a strap. How hard could it be! So I decided to recycle a pair of jeans! I have been saving (hoarding) them for a while now. I used a leg for the front and one for the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_S5rVO_4JMM/Ua_Kjv-zO-I/AAAAAAAACr0/7CWv3djc1lA/s1600/13+-+11" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_S5rVO_4JMM/Ua_Kjv-zO-I/AAAAAAAACr0/7CWv3djc1lA/s320/13+-+11" width="240" /></a></div>
This will be the back. I kept the hem at the top. For the front, I cut off the pockets and used them as a pocket for my cell phone and such.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CnKpQOHMcXQ/Ua_KjpdMIDI/AAAAAAAACsk/9EFQKkuECcE/s1600/13+-+10" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CnKpQOHMcXQ/Ua_KjpdMIDI/AAAAAAAACsk/9EFQKkuECcE/s320/13+-+10" width="240" /></a></div>
This is where I ran into problems, the little machine I was sewing on, didn't like layers of denim, so I had to wait till today to use my Bernina. Still it took some time and a few needles! <br />
<br />
I used a paisley print I already had on hand for the lining, then added some denim pockets for good measure.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WFI3k3xzkGE/Ua_KjjOgLPI/AAAAAAAACrk/dC6ZSaeVQpY/s1600/13+-+8" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WFI3k3xzkGE/Ua_KjjOgLPI/AAAAAAAACrk/dC6ZSaeVQpY/s320/13+-+8" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TOLI0nNzM8w/Ua_KjpGb3gI/AAAAAAAACss/fPbhb_jameM/s1600/13+-+9" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TOLI0nNzM8w/Ua_KjpGb3gI/AAAAAAAACss/fPbhb_jameM/s320/13+-+9" width="240" /></a></div>
I then used some furniture webbing I had on hand for the sides. Love that!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BqXc3y-UQ34/Ua_KjjSsqPI/AAAAAAAACsc/PlpPq_o3sSY/s1600/13+-+2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BqXc3y-UQ34/Ua_KjjSsqPI/AAAAAAAACsc/PlpPq_o3sSY/s320/13+-+2" width="240" /></a></div>
So after hand cranking the machine at some points, and breaking 3 needles, I give you the Edith Hobo Bag!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pALiNFCZhuw/Ua_KjoWfYOI/AAAAAAAACsU/SRhKVU0dLWQ/s1600/13+-+1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pALiNFCZhuw/Ua_KjoWfYOI/AAAAAAAACsU/SRhKVU0dLWQ/s320/13+-+1" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3QwD3BJRN5s/Ua_KjvPMDLI/AAAAAAAACsE/a0Si2JMQsrE/s1600/13+-+3" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3QwD3BJRN5s/Ua_KjvPMDLI/AAAAAAAACsE/a0Si2JMQsrE/s320/13+-+3" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I will have to road test it for a while to see if it works. I have more jeans I can recycle, just don't know if I want to fight the machine anymore. Love recycling! And it didn't cost a thing! Using stuff I already had, even better!<br />
<br />
Have a great day!<br />

laurmelahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04318041983035643476noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3994637003477496495.post-47793050698588885532013-05-29T15:41:00.002-07:002013-05-29T15:41:51.105-07:00A little recycling.Sorry I have been absent for so long, sciatica stinks! Man, never felt anything like that and never want to again. Three weeks in pain sucks. But I am about 85% back so needed to work on a project. I still don't have my sewing machine back from the shop, long story. But my Mom let me have one a friend gave her. Just a straight stiticher, but that will do. <br />
<br />
So I have had this project pinned to Pinterest for a while. I have been saving old jeans to make a quilt, but I want to do something now. Here is the link: <a href="http://www.agirlandagluegun.com/2010/05/levi-apron.html">A Girl and a Glue Gun</a>. <br />
<br />
Sorry I really didn't take many pics, but Kimbo makes it real easy. I just cut up a pair of old jeans, one leg will do, then cut out a pocket from another pair, it was cuter! Then cut strips of a remnant I already had and went to work!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4vnuk0H2EFE/UaaDSyOqHSI/AAAAAAAACqw/lZ7_AIKBzbk/s1600/13+-+2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4vnuk0H2EFE/UaaDSyOqHSI/AAAAAAAACqw/lZ7_AIKBzbk/s400/13+-+2" width="300" /></a></div>
Sorry I didn't feel like modeling. I think it came out OK though. Not too bad for a first one on a machine I am not familiar with. Here is the pocket detail:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CEP-nf8mNvg/UaaDNJrb5DI/AAAAAAAACqY/TjIaztZ5VFQ/s1600/13+-+1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CEP-nf8mNvg/UaaDNJrb5DI/AAAAAAAACqY/TjIaztZ5VFQ/s400/13+-+1" width="300" /></a></div>
I may just have to make another one! Although the machine is not liking sewing through denim. Hopefully will get mine back soon.<br />

We planted our veggies on March 17, see the post <a href="http://laurmelashouse.blogspot.com/2013/03/veggie-time.html">here</a>. We live in a So Cal tract house, so not much yard. Three years ago we updated our side yard to include 2 raised beds, so now we can grow veggies. See the transformation <a href="http://laurmelashouse.blogspot.com/2010/09/before-and-after.html">here</a>. Here are the latest pics:<br />

Lemon Cucumber that is starting to climb, that is a solar light in the middle.<br />

I can't believe how fast it has grown in 2 mos. I just need the weird weather to stop. Last week, it was in the 90's and now it is 68! Tomatoes need sun!<br />

<br />
Two weeks ago in the middle of making a quilt for DAR my sewing machine stopped feeding. Yup the feed dog stopped doing its job. Actually it really hadn't been up to par since the last time I got it serviced. I had to take it back once, and I think I really didn't want to take it back again, it was around Christmas, so I just made do. Well, come to find out there was a broken part, and since it is an old Bernina, they have to get it from Switzerland! Hopefully it will be back next week, but in the mean time I have been looking for a second machine.<br />
<br />
Trolling ebay and craigslist. Lost 2 on ebay at the last minute, but it went over my budget, so oh well.<br />
<br />
Also, DH and I started our spring walking routine about a month ago. When DH gets home from work around 4:30 we walk. Usually about 2 or 3 miles. It is a great way to have time alone with your spouse, plus great exercise. But of course this old body is objecting. Turns out it is my sciatica (sp) and walking irritates it. When we would get home I couldn't lift my left leg. So I am supposed to be resting it, but since I don't have a sewing machine I am going crazy! OY!<br />
<br />
Good news, DD finished her second year of college! Yeah! It was a rough semester, but glad it is over and she did well. Now job hunting time comes!<br />
<br />
Just wanted to give you an update. Hope to be back on the crafting track soon.<br />
<br />
Toodles,<br />

I am sure if you live in KY you do, but here in CA, not so much. <br />
Well Saturday is our Annual DAR Spring Meeting and Pre-Derby Luncheon! And there is a Hat Contest! So I became a milliner for a few hours!<br />
<br />
Last week I found this great hat at Burlington Coat Factory for 50% off! Score.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ItTUGInBZlI/UYLA5gh5vdI/AAAAAAAAChU/QK6f9jtKfLw/s1600/13+-+1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ItTUGInBZlI/UYLA5gh5vdI/AAAAAAAAChU/QK6f9jtKfLw/s320/13+-+1" width="240" /></a></div>
My dress is basic black, but I have a cool pair of turquoise earrings, so guess which color I went with? <br />
Went to Michaels yesterday and got ribbon, 50% off, feathers and a jewel, oh yeah and a few flowers! <br />
Then went to JoAnn's and found some great netting. So here is a few during shots.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And the cool after! I am ready to go!<br />

Game on! Can't wait to see what others have come up with. This was fun, and really only took about 1/2 hour! <br />
<br />
Warm, windy and fires here in So Cal today. Hope all are well, and be safe!<br />

About a month ago DH noticed that a pot was starting to get twigs and sticks in it! Sure enough a mourning dove couple were building a nest! I was thrilled, the family, not so much! We know at least one egg was laid, and DH said last weekend, when they were changing shifts!, he spotted a baby!<br />
<br />
Here are a few pics:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eQi9_aTDscQ/UXgktojfDMI/AAAAAAAACfk/AF2wTw4S2EU/s1600/13+-+1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eQi9_aTDscQ/UXgktojfDMI/AAAAAAAACfk/AF2wTw4S2EU/s320/13+-+1" width="235" /></a></div>
See her in the upper pot? That is the screen door in the background. I have read that both the mother and father will sit on the egg and take shifts going out to feed. The eggs take 2 weeks to incubate and then there is 2 weeks of fledglings. Then the youngsters may still stick around for 2 weeks.<br />
<br />
Here is a sign we put up to discourage people from coming to the front porch:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E3twynDRCk0/UXgktvtm6nI/AAAAAAAACfU/COnssK9YmA4/s1600/13+-+2" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E3twynDRCk0/UXgktvtm6nI/AAAAAAAACfU/COnssK9YmA4/s320/13+-+2" width="240" /></a></div>
That has been nice, no solicitors! We have been using the side gate or garage. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XKzPBUAZ2wE/UXgktsboE3I/AAAAAAAACfc/hlq52R0rm-E/s1600/13+-+3" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XKzPBUAZ2wE/UXgktsboE3I/AAAAAAAACfc/hlq52R0rm-E/s320/13+-+3" width="238" /></a></div>
Hope to have a pic of baby soon! Actually we really want the porch back! So this pot will be moved when they leave. I read that they could use the same nest up to 5 times! Yikes<br />
<br />
There has been a crow hanging around, though. I think I have enough chimes and feeders hanging where he can't get to them, but am keeping watch anyways!<br />
<br />
Have a great day,<br />

I have to take my reading glasses to the store to read labels. Amazed by what is in our food! We are trying to go back to basics and homemade! It has been hard for her as she is a cheese and pizza lover, but we are hoping that adjusting the enzymes she will be able to eat those soon! Anyway, I have been on the hunt for dairy free recipes. When I ran across this recipe on Pinterest!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://lovintheoven.com/2010/03/cinnamon-swirl-banana-bread.html">Cinnamon Swirl Banana Bread</a> at Lovin from the Oven! I love a good banana bread, but find that a lot of recipes don't have enough bananas for my taste. Well this one is awesome, there are 3 bananas per loaf! And it was dairy free!<br />
<br />
The first time I made this I had 6 ripe bananas lying around. So I doubled the recipe and it was awesome! The 2 loaves didn't last long in my house, maybe 3 days! I have since made it 2 more times, and both time it flies out the door! So I thought I would share some of the pics with you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tk2fTihvoZE/UWg2xedZiFI/AAAAAAAACdc/7HD5E7tL3_Y/s1600/97E98F5E-1017-4CF6-B1BD-0FF69275E2FF.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tk2fTihvoZE/UWg2xedZiFI/AAAAAAAACdc/7HD5E7tL3_Y/s320/97E98F5E-1017-4CF6-B1BD-0FF69275E2FF.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Using my new <a href="http://laurmelashouse.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-stand-for-ipad.html">iPad stand</a>!. AWESOME, so nice to have it up off the counter.<br />

Glass pans ready to go. I love these, one was my Aunt's, she passed away last June, and one I found at a garage sale. <br />
<br />

Mixing the bananas, sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla. Don't you love my 'vintage' Sunbeam mixmaster! I love this mixer. DH got it for me the Christmas before we moved here, 25 years ago! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uEJ-dtVZISE/UWg3R5mXfXI/AAAAAAAACd4/k78VNFMbOOE/s1600/9ECC1779-CAED-4303-94CB-EB9D55BF54F9.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uEJ-dtVZISE/UWg3R5mXfXI/AAAAAAAACd4/k78VNFMbOOE/s320/9ECC1779-CAED-4303-94CB-EB9D55BF54F9.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Mixing in the flour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mpmMfMz5RdU/UWg3V5lXs5I/AAAAAAAACeA/xjRugbhM_ts/s1600/0A4E055F-6AB5-4FFB-91C1-DF472781CC1E.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mpmMfMz5RdU/UWg3V5lXs5I/AAAAAAAACeA/xjRugbhM_ts/s320/0A4E055F-6AB5-4FFB-91C1-DF472781CC1E.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
You pour half into the pans then sprinkle with the cinnamon/sugar mixture, of course I forgot to take a pic of that!<br />

I can never get the ha/f measurement down right, oh well, here you can see the cinnamon layer.<br />

I posted on March 17th that we had planted our tomatoes and such. I have since added green beans, eggplant and a lemon cucumber!<br />
<br />
I took this pic the other day! Can't believe how much they have grown in only a few weeks!<br />

<br />
So I am using this for the Spring Pinterest Challenge! You have heard of it right?<br />
<img alt="" class="alignnone" height="188" src="http://images.younghouselove.com.s3.amazonaws.com/2013/04/banner.jpg" width="500" /><br />
<br />
<br />
It is put on by some awesome bloggers, Sherry at <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/">Young House Love</a>, read it every day!, Katie at <a href="http://www.bowerpowerblog.com/">Bower Power Blog</a>, have you seen her youngest Weston? Cautie Patootie to the max! Emily from <a href="http://www.sparklemeetspop.com/">Sparkle Meets Pop</a>, and Renee from <a href="http://redbird-blue.blogspot.com/">Red Bird Blue</a>. Such Fun!<br />
<br />
<br />
So here it is, my Pinterest inspired project!<br />
<br />
<br />
Do you ever start a project and then life gets in the way. It wasn't hard, in fact it was just spray painting and gluing, but geesh. Anywho...<br />
<br />
I had seen these awesome ipad stands on Pinterest. And since I am always baking using recipes I found on Pinterest, I needed a stand! So I blame it on Pinterest ")<br />
<br />
Here are a few examples:<br />
<br />
This one is from Andrea at <a href="http://queenofkings-bradshaw.blogspot.com/2013/03/diy-pottery-barn-kitchen-tablet-holder.html">Queen of Kings</a>. It is her interpretation of one at Pottery Barn, I like hers better!<br />
<br />
<img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0g4zKN2rxo4/UTQ54q3xNAI/AAAAAAAABkU/ONQ1Pv3lVS0/s400/DSC_0700.jpg" width="266" /><br />
<br />
<br />
This one is from <a href="http://mamiejanes.blogspot.com/2013/03/another-kitchen-tablet-holder.html">Mamie Janes</a>. Love this gal's style repurposed to the max!<br />
<img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kgeY3_edbLM/UU9l-e-xa5I/AAAAAAAAGOg/to938jlX_bs/s320/IMG_7901.jpg" width="213" /><br />
<br />
<br />
And finally this one from the gals at <a href="http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/2013/03/ipad-display-diy.html">Shanty to Chic</a>.<br />
<img alt="DIY iPad Stand" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-10579" height="320" src="http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DIY-iPad-Stand.jpg" width="213" /><br />
<br />
<br />
So I thought I can do that! At first I was going to make it from scrap wood, but then I remembered I had an old cutting board of sorts that my Mother In Law had given me, and I had a scrabble tile holder! Light Bulb.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yEtC9SHW0KI/UWSJosYj64I/AAAAAAAACZk/QdqOv-H3i_g/s1600/191BB925-7F22-4E55-AB4F-2E186F39522D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yEtC9SHW0KI/UWSJosYj64I/AAAAAAAACZk/QdqOv-H3i_g/s320/191BB925-7F22-4E55-AB4F-2E186F39522D.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Don't worry it wasn't hand painted, it was just a decal. So I sanded and sanded, then added a few coats of primer to that side. I chose to make the previous design side the back. So I then glued the scrabble tile holder on to the front.. Like my weight?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y7Ljzm440no/UWSFtUmoAfI/AAAAAAAACX4/85n_tlcdu1I/s1600/CAD90DB7-5280-48BD-9238-9F81AB01C6A5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-y7Ljzm440no/UWSFtUmoAfI/AAAAAAAACX4/85n_tlcdu1I/s320/CAD90DB7-5280-48BD-9238-9F81AB01C6A5.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I sprayed the whole thing a creamy white.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IFkx-1m8EI0/UWSGF5m5H4I/AAAAAAAACYA/OpFM3wCjcPo/s1600/9D4D7570-B2EF-49C6-9BC1-34804ECB929F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IFkx-1m8EI0/UWSGF5m5H4I/AAAAAAAACYA/OpFM3wCjcPo/s320/9D4D7570-B2EF-49C6-9BC1-34804ECB929F.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It took a few coats, but I knew I was going to distress a little later so some wood grain showing through was no big deal.<br />
I wanted to give is some character, so I added a few red stripes down the side, sort of like a flour sack.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FvqBvJSHZbU/UWSGWxpQ7yI/AAAAAAAACYI/bhIyJgW5NPo/s1600/60B84DB6-1764-4EEA-B3D7-1B10EA13BA41.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FvqBvJSHZbU/UWSGWxpQ7yI/AAAAAAAACYI/bhIyJgW5NPo/s320/60B84DB6-1764-4EEA-B3D7-1B10EA13BA41.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
This is before I sanded. I still love the result. Now came the hard part trying to figure out an easel of sorts.<br />
I tried a trowel figuring it was the right angle, but that was a major fail! All the epoxy did was dissolve the paint and because the base of the trowel was rounded, it just rocked. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VlELqVbNhig/UWSHX7TURWI/AAAAAAAACYQ/mFG88zKecxY/s1600/90FBF32F-B63C-4DF6-993E-23505910AD9E.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VlELqVbNhig/UWSHX7TURWI/AAAAAAAACYQ/mFG88zKecxY/s320/90FBF32F-B63C-4DF6-993E-23505910AD9E.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
So DH went to get a hinge and then cut a piece of wood to use as an easel. We just needed a way to hold it in the right position. So I used twine and upholstery tacs! It is easy to adjust if you need too and works great!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TbEzI8vgIqU/UWSH0pNv9dI/AAAAAAAACYY/Ww8Yy9KE0V0/s1600/42D27FAF-B665-4074-B41E-E71FE1598DF7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TbEzI8vgIqU/UWSH0pNv9dI/AAAAAAAACYY/Ww8Yy9KE0V0/s320/42D27FAF-B665-4074-B41E-E71FE1598DF7.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-be0YTlUGi_Y/UWSH3Qf0QvI/AAAAAAAACYg/AYVuXtbXy7M/s1600/6A41B11D-91B8-44BD-9CC7-CA97824A5AF6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-be0YTlUGi_Y/UWSH3Qf0QvI/AAAAAAAACYg/AYVuXtbXy7M/s320/6A41B11D-91B8-44BD-9CC7-CA97824A5AF6.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how it turned out. Now I can read recipes easily and won't have to worry about spilling on my expensive toy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UmhHrRGWTWM/UWSICiVzjbI/AAAAAAAACYo/nyiIZ34WN-I/s1600/81454E04-BD7B-4EE6-9990-D374F4911D57.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UmhHrRGWTWM/UWSICiVzjbI/AAAAAAAACYo/nyiIZ34WN-I/s320/81454E04-BD7B-4EE6-9990-D374F4911D57.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I have a case on my ipad, so that is what is off on the top. Without the case it fits perfectly on the scrabble tile holder! And the best part, it only cost me the price of the hinge! I had all the other items. Love that part!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-beWLFzMCSvM/UWSJNBLEx0I/AAAAAAAACZc/wBGD06bojn0/s1600/E39E7866-EA54-4281-BD9B-AB9CAD2C5C4F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-beWLFzMCSvM/UWSJNBLEx0I/AAAAAAAACZc/wBGD06bojn0/s320/E39E7866-EA54-4281-BD9B-AB9CAD2C5C4F.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
What projects have you finally finished!<br />

My cousin's grand daughter, I guess that makes her my 3rd cousin? She is turning 2! DD and I decided she needed a new quilt. We made her one when she was born, but now that she is a big girl, she needs a new one!<br />
<br />
Well her family are big Disney fans. They have passes and go all the time. So she is a huge Disney Princess fan. So a theme was born. Need to make a Disney Princess quilt! Lucky for us when we went to JoAnn's all their Character Prints were 50% off! <br />
<br />
Here are the squares all cut:<br />

I used 8 inch squares, a 3/4 inch seam and it is 7 x 7 squares across.<br />
<br />
Here it is all laid out:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4kF1aSSCiPU/UUzZ8mUAp0I/AAAAAAAACDE/U5IqDYUmiQ0/s1600/060307C7-C3CD-40BD-9270-AB2BF218F416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4kF1aSSCiPU/UUzZ8mUAp0I/AAAAAAAACDE/U5IqDYUmiQ0/s320/060307C7-C3CD-40BD-9270-AB2BF218F416.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
There is a tink print, a pink princess print and a blue Cinderella print. Then we filled in with pink and blue stars and an awesome green/glitter solid and a sweet pink and green. dot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rqfMdoVnWbA/UUzahIW8ZVI/AAAAAAAACDs/zbY4MeKsSik/s1600/75C7F831-79BB-420F-BC57-F8DF4491C746.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rqfMdoVnWbA/UUzahIW8ZVI/AAAAAAAACDs/zbY4MeKsSik/s320/75C7F831-79BB-420F-BC57-F8DF4491C746.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Again I used the tried and true stiching on the border with alternating colors:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R9qX6aIBflQ/UUzaZQuyjRI/AAAAAAAACDc/b-nm6giEzhE/s1600/25823975-1084-4F66-AF7E-3BE64CAB26A5.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R9qX6aIBflQ/UUzaZQuyjRI/AAAAAAAACDc/b-nm6giEzhE/s320/25823975-1084-4F66-AF7E-3BE64CAB26A5.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
And after snipping and washing here she is?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F7NY815E4sE/UUzbUAPZlRI/AAAAAAAACEw/BLsYOLahHJE/s1600/B2C2C80F-430D-42F0-87CA-3D702F661D00.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F7NY815E4sE/UUzbUAPZlRI/AAAAAAAACEw/BLsYOLahHJE/s320/B2C2C80F-430D-42F0-87CA-3D702F661D00.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>

Pretty low key around here. Last weekend it was time to get the raised beds ready for veggies. We added more soil and some compost and mixed it up a bit. Then added our veggies.<br />
<br />
I love fresh from the vine tomatoes, don't you? We planted 4 plants, can't wait!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_P3NolVfc5g/UUZgYrfJ9PI/AAAAAAAAB3o/rdCBDX2M3Mc/s1600/50026FE9-7506-4533-8F98-9FD43CBBB6C7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_P3NolVfc5g/UUZgYrfJ9PI/AAAAAAAAB3o/rdCBDX2M3Mc/s320/50026FE9-7506-4533-8F98-9FD43CBBB6C7.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
There are 3 in this bed and 1 in the next one. Yellow Pear, Purple Cherokee, Superstar to name 3 of them!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lev5gkgcrcA/UUZglUQJe-I/AAAAAAAAB3w/KffvU0ngTBQ/s1600/EBE95884-0169-4CF7-839C-0281198780E0.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lev5gkgcrcA/UUZglUQJe-I/AAAAAAAAB3w/KffvU0ngTBQ/s320/EBE95884-0169-4CF7-839C-0281198780E0.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Here I also have some swiss chard, and a zucchini! The tall plant is my sugar snap peas that have been growing all winter. Still producing but starting to taper off. <br />
I also added a pot with some rosemary and basil. Need to start cooking with them more!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Dieqo_bUTm4/UUZg4fTch7I/AAAAAAAAB34/j7iIiCy9Njo/s1600/337C85E4-63AB-448D-819A-DDC4BEEC5BED.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Dieqo_bUTm4/UUZg4fTch7I/AAAAAAAAB34/j7iIiCy9Njo/s320/337C85E4-63AB-448D-819A-DDC4BEEC5BED.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Have you planted your garden yet? What are you growing.<br />

Here is a pic of our garden from last year!<br />

<br />
<br />
Hi, hope you are having a great day!<br />
<br />
As you may remember I enjoy making rag quilts, flannel ones at that. I have always wanted to try a flag quilt. Have you seen them? I just never found a pattern I liked. I have a few pinned on Pinterest, but none that I really wanted to tackle. Finally I found one easy enough for me to do. Here is a pic of the patten I found.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://media-cache-ec6.pinterest.com/550x/46/d2/1d/46d21d48c8c121d975297227073e2515.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="A patriotic raggedy quilt that looks like a rustic and ragged flag." border="0" class="PinImageImg" data-componenttype="MODAL_PIN" src="http://media-cache-ec6.pinterest.com/550x/46/d2/1d/46d21d48c8c121d975297227073e2515.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Didn't look too hard, now I just need to scour my stash to find all the red, white/cream and blue flannel I had. I knew I would probably need more so off to Joann's I went. I bought some solids and some prints. Here is what I came up with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W7TVXYsIscc/UT0EwwKMXJI/AAAAAAAAB0A/UVzEJv09aV4/s1600/635A8DE3-1F0F-429E-84C2-1A210AE931C8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W7TVXYsIscc/UT0EwwKMXJI/AAAAAAAAB0A/UVzEJv09aV4/s320/635A8DE3-1F0F-429E-84C2-1A210AE931C8.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
This is just laid out on my bed, which I always use to lay out my quilts. Really hard to find cream and white prints in flannel. And I worry that the red will run. Oh well, here it is with the rows sewn.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3LeD7Z-fSYs/UT0FEte27tI/AAAAAAAAB1w/FtZFRGm2RgY/s1600/46830D80-B9D9-4958-873F-37E02230EE8D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3LeD7Z-fSYs/UT0FEte27tI/AAAAAAAAB1w/FtZFRGm2RgY/s320/46830D80-B9D9-4958-873F-37E02230EE8D.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And from the other side:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QW6v2_QRKMM/UT0Flx_zTOI/AAAAAAAAB2Q/BLutL9hImHc/s1600/E9147F75-2DD7-415A-A5AE-9FCA13956013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QW6v2_QRKMM/UT0Flx_zTOI/AAAAAAAAB2Q/BLutL9hImHc/s320/E9147F75-2DD7-415A-A5AE-9FCA13956013.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So after I got it all sewn up, I really like out it turned out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qP-KTNuBOOE/UT0FyO1ZoWI/AAAAAAAAB2o/da7FweNcwkk/s1600/3B23252E-77CA-4340-83DA-28065D8264E6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qP-KTNuBOOE/UT0FyO1ZoWI/AAAAAAAAB2o/da7FweNcwkk/s320/3B23252E-77CA-4340-83DA-28065D8264E6.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I do a decorative stitch around the edges, this time I use red thread on one side and blue on the other!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7puy2cYmKCk/UT0F8aoUDVI/AAAAAAAAB2w/qVIogpeje8A/s1600/7BFAFBB2-0D08-42D0-ADED-068287DF8452.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7puy2cYmKCk/UT0F8aoUDVI/AAAAAAAAB2w/qVIogpeje8A/s320/7BFAFBB2-0D08-42D0-ADED-068287DF8452.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
And here she is after snipping and washing!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1A2VcbZm-9k/UT0GA2OAl_I/AAAAAAAAB24/iGQa25ata3c/s1600/B75A7AB3-8653-4692-9A43-4447601B37DA.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1A2VcbZm-9k/UT0GA2OAl_I/AAAAAAAAB24/iGQa25ata3c/s320/B75A7AB3-8653-4692-9A43-4447601B37DA.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
What do you think? I think it turned out great! The red didn't run and I washed it twice, in cold with 2 color catchers. I think I will make another one! This one is going to our annual DAR Heritage Tea silent auction.<br />
<br />
Have a great week!<br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I found this darling pattern at <a href="http://www.themotherhuddle.com/little-betty-bag-free-pattern-and-tutorial/">The Mother Huddle</a> for the Little Betty Bag. Too cute. I had some left over fabric from a tote bag I made last year for the DAR auction. Very patriotic! The bag is more of a small evening bag, which is what I wanted. This way she can take it to State Conference and use at the formal nights!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">So here are a few pics!</span><br />
<br />

This is the front flap. I tried to center the print I also added seed beads to the print. Nothing like making it harder!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This will be the back.<br />

Here it is all finished. I used a chain for the strap, and a magnetic closure.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P_L0djIWuOQ/USfQaHsWBQI/AAAAAAAABtc/TPa6x7GTUd0/s1600/AD7E0EAA-2E9B-41AC-A945-14C9EF1C3475.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P_L0djIWuOQ/USfQaHsWBQI/AAAAAAAABtc/TPa6x7GTUd0/s320/AD7E0EAA-2E9B-41AC-A945-14C9EF1C3475.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Found these cute chain holders at JoAnn's. You can remove the chain if you want to use as a clutch. It is small and will hold a phone, cash and maybe a lipstick. <br />
<br />
Here is a close up of the beading detail I added. Hope it isn't too hooky.<br />

Have a great weekend all.<br />

<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So last fall I had to adjust to my DD going away to college. She was only 60 miles away, but wanted to try the 'dorm' experience. So we moved her in and she came home most weekends. Well fast forward to this January where she decided it wasn't for her and moved back home! While I am fine with this, it is an adjustment again. She is commuting to school and says even with the drive she is fine and much more happy! </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now DS has been fighting with severe tendonitis all summer/fall and had to resign from his job of 4 years because of it. In late November another health issue cropped up and now that is finally getting resolved and he is (hopefully) on the mend. We told him to work on getting healthy and everything else will fall into place. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Again, adjustment. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I think I have had a hard time with this because we are all taught that when your kids turn 18, it is time for them to leave the nest, or become adults and work and go to school. As I tell DH all the time, the world is a different place than when we were their age! Heck when I was 23 I was planning a wedding!</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But I digress, I love having them home and seeing them flourish and work through life. Their time will come and I will be happy to help them when they are ready. </span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Have a great day!</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Toodles,</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

Yes can you believe it, it is 2013! Crazy! I know I have been MIA for a while now, but sometimes, life just gets in the way! So I am back and raring to go! <br />
<br />
Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. Now time for cleaning, organizing and getting those cobwebs out!<br />
<br />
I have a few projects in my head, but here is one I did as a quick neighbor gift for the holidays!<br />
<br />
Sea Salt and Herb Rub:<br />
<br />
First I found this recipe at Country Home, (whose website is down for maintenance, so I can't link! Sorry I will post the recipe at the bottom of the page)<br />
<br />
Bought all the herbs and such at Smart and Final and found the lemon zest at Target!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fZroBimyNfQ/UOSKzb_pCiI/AAAAAAAABXw/cWOCemBcdCU/s1600/5628D549-BDDD-41E3-8D7E-589E619097EC.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fZroBimyNfQ/UOSKzb_pCiI/AAAAAAAABXw/cWOCemBcdCU/s320/5628D549-BDDD-41E3-8D7E-589E619097EC.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Then we found these cute jars at World Market. Love that store.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nw7eiqDGJQA/UOSKzjNbyxI/AAAAAAAABYg/s_61NERmGaQ/s1600/B8EB1B87-07A9-4027-AA89-64E363D6034D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nw7eiqDGJQA/UOSKzjNbyxI/AAAAAAAABYg/s_61NERmGaQ/s320/B8EB1B87-07A9-4027-AA89-64E363D6034D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I love how they had the openings in the top!<br />
<br />
Mixed it all together and poured into the jars.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MKqMt8lgqDk/UOSLE2inG_I/AAAAAAAABZk/unOrcW1Uzu8/s1600/8DE16715-93D4-4476-BF0F-C4898C6C87CA.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MKqMt8lgqDk/UOSLE2inG_I/AAAAAAAABZk/unOrcW1Uzu8/s320/8DE16715-93D4-4476-BF0F-C4898C6C87CA.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S8dgpzcri40/UOSLI6i-tHI/AAAAAAAABaE/MLpk39E6hLM/s1600/65D0C992-6D00-4149-92A9-EF8ACD491D7F.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S8dgpzcri40/UOSLI6i-tHI/AAAAAAAABaE/MLpk39E6hLM/s320/65D0C992-6D00-4149-92A9-EF8ACD491D7F.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I had to figure out a way to label them. Bingo. I found this tape at Michaels I think it was $1.99</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQgO-dYBSHw/UOSLcWdVRmI/AAAAAAAABb0/UxvNWo7DnAk/s1600/C1A56737-C9E3-4A34-A8B4-6DEC56005379.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQgO-dYBSHw/UOSLcWdVRmI/AAAAAAAABb0/UxvNWo7DnAk/s320/C1A56737-C9E3-4A34-A8B4-6DEC56005379.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
So wrapped around the jar and then added a label I printed on clear labels.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nfkQjIRoDHA/UOSLj75lYaI/AAAAAAAABcs/HVH9FDmMWCw/s1600/DADEF78C-2FA8-44AD-9827-43C9CF447BA7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nfkQjIRoDHA/UOSLj75lYaI/AAAAAAAABcs/HVH9FDmMWCw/s320/DADEF78C-2FA8-44AD-9827-43C9CF447BA7.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dqoHNJvXtHs/UOSLnwEmONI/AAAAAAAABc4/p2omUCxEugQ/s1600/54D2B273-3DE6-4447-AB6E-C7B23929843C.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dqoHNJvXtHs/UOSLnwEmONI/AAAAAAAABc4/p2omUCxEugQ/s320/54D2B273-3DE6-4447-AB6E-C7B23929843C.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_YrwwNpi4hk/UOSLq54iSXI/AAAAAAAABdE/RdlM9TGsZoE/s1600/A8F946D7-F1C7-4029-9D57-F1C6D3EB07FD.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_YrwwNpi4hk/UOSLq54iSXI/AAAAAAAABdE/RdlM9TGsZoE/s320/A8F946D7-F1C7-4029-9D57-F1C6D3EB07FD.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Then just trimmed the edges with a exacto knife and voila, Easy Peasy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dLPTYlOUXMA/UOSL75B2TLI/AAAAAAAABdU/-GEjWRyz8NM/s1600/27BCDFE8-5308-466D-A60F-533F1C994F83.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dLPTYlOUXMA/UOSL75B2TLI/AAAAAAAABdU/-GEjWRyz8NM/s320/27BCDFE8-5308-466D-A60F-533F1C994F83.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love how they turned out. I added a little direction card printed on card stock for each gift. Here is the recipe:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1 1/3 cups coarse sea salt or kosher salt</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great day!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>

Off in the corner is the small angled hall closet, or cabinets. I really don't know what they were thinking when they added these cabinets. I am sure there is wasted space behind them. Sorry I don't have a before shot, but just picture boring navaho white cabinets and counter top. <br />
<br />
Back in 2008 when we were doing the whole house refresh, I had our contractor reface the cabinets with beadboard. We then used leftover flooring for the counter and used faux tin panels for the backsplash. Finally I got the counter cleaned off. It is the dumping ground for all that isn't wanted! So here is my clean and much improved hall closet!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ThSw2toLzZg/UEY-6Gxb--I/AAAAAAAABPo/mqymEQyhgxQ/s1600/100_3960.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ThSw2toLzZg/UEY-6Gxb--I/AAAAAAAABPo/mqymEQyhgxQ/s320/100_3960.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
The dinosaur is 'Bub', he was DS favorite toy for many years. We got it at the local swap meet many moons ago. I saved it cause it brings back such memories.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PAG4wDzfXaw/UEY_crvu3HI/AAAAAAAABPw/w0Va1e-HUQQ/s1600/100_3964.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PAG4wDzfXaw/UEY_crvu3HI/AAAAAAAABPw/w0Va1e-HUQQ/s320/100_3964.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is a close up of the tin and flooring. I love how it turned out. Give this little corner of the hall some personality.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Gy7onHXv-pU/UEY_vSkG9QI/AAAAAAAABP4/apVSTwbh8oY/s1600/100_3969.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Gy7onHXv-pU/UEY_vSkG9QI/AAAAAAAABP4/apVSTwbh8oY/s320/100_3969.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the beadboard detal on the cabinets, he did such a good job. And those are my fav crystal pulls from Restoration Hardware. I love them and used them on my desk as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wuvu8slVdME/UEZALX_5bMI/AAAAAAAABQA/Qo9Rd_JHSzc/s1600/100_3959.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wuvu8slVdME/UEZALX_5bMI/AAAAAAAABQA/Qo9Rd_JHSzc/s320/100_3959.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
So when you have a small closet or cabinet that you don't know what to do with, it is OK to think outside of the box. You never know what you will come up with!<br />
<br />
Have a great week,<br />

Zilch, nothing, zero. I feel like I accomplished nothing! Oh I guess I did the flags for the 4th, but I really got nothing done. We were like bumps on a log, we did nothing! <br />
<br />
Finally a project! I am taking my house back! After being home all summer with a 19 and 23 year old, I want my house back. DD leaves for school on Friday, and while I love having her home, well... DS was on disablilty from work with a knee injury, so I felt like I had 2 toddlers at home. WAAHH, I want my house back!<br />
<br />
So here is what I did! On Sunday I had had enough. I started with the kitchen and began scrubbing and cleaning and rearranging. I don't care if they don't like it! <br />
<br />
First off I cleaned off the sides of the fridge. Yes there will be no magnets, no cute sayings no grease on my fridge! Love how it turned out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IhrTt6QAhtg/UDPN8vHsc_I/AAAAAAAABNk/QWscGKD9vnc/s1600/100_3938.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IhrTt6QAhtg/UDPN8vHsc_I/AAAAAAAABNk/QWscGKD9vnc/s320/100_3938.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
So clean and fresh, no visual clutter! I already have way too much of that! The frame is one I got at a garage sale, took out the print and added the cute chicken fabric, now it is a white board!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--h7RzeBjwZM/UDPOtjI8MZI/AAAAAAAABNs/rGyj7N0HRAU/s1600/100_3939.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--h7RzeBjwZM/UDPOtjI8MZI/AAAAAAAABNs/rGyj7N0HRAU/s320/100_3939.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is the other side. The mason jars hold nesquick and tea. Love me some blue/green mason jars!<br />
<br />
Now, you ask, where will you put all the stuff that was on the fridge! Well after seeing the idea all over blog land, I decided I would jump on the bandwagon. Inside the cabinet door! Yes and it was so easy!<br />
<br />
Here are a few pics for reference:<br />

<br />
<br />
This is my inspiration. So off to Target I went to get the cork, and Lowes for the sheet metal. The cork is $6.99 for 4 12 x12 squares and they come with little squares of sticky to use to install. I measured and cut with an exacto knife and installed.<br />
<br />
Here is the before:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e-R61w1YCaE/UDPTdbjlY5I/AAAAAAAABOY/FTjMnDLz7Tg/s1600/100_3935.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e-R61w1YCaE/UDPTdbjlY5I/AAAAAAAABOY/FTjMnDLz7Tg/s320/100_3935.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
This is the cabinet across from the fridge where all the glasses live. I put cork on one door and metal on the other. The after:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ltBjnWv8xM0/UDPT4LESY_I/AAAAAAAABOg/Rt4hZLfeR9M/s1600/100_3936.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ltBjnWv8xM0/UDPT4LESY_I/AAAAAAAABOg/Rt4hZLfeR9M/s1600/100_3936.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ltBjnWv8xM0/UDPT4LESY_I/AAAAAAAABOg/Rt4hZLfeR9M/s320/100_3936.JPG" width="240" /><br />
<br />
</a><br />
<br />
<br />
I can't decide if I want to put a strip of cork there in the middle or just leave it. I do like how it turned out and it was so easy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-27Kop-rXxhY/UDPUDmQ7xvI/AAAAAAAABOs/UCN1u78PF5s/s1600/100_3945.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-27Kop-rXxhY/UDPUDmQ7xvI/AAAAAAAABOs/UCN1u78PF5s/s320/100_3945.JPG" width="240" /></a>This was easy to a point. I already had tin snips and I wore gloves when cutting. The first cut is easy, then it takes awhile to get the hang of getting in and getting the second cut. But the results are great!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also did this to the cabinet next to the stove that hold all my baking supplies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ysyIaqX3xRI/UDPVCyj0qWI/AAAAAAAABO0/VTJsZBaF1Co/s1600/100_3944.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ysyIaqX3xRI/UDPVCyj0qWI/AAAAAAAABO0/VTJsZBaF1Co/s320/100_3944.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This way I can have my measuring cheat sheets readily available! Sorry the pics for this side didn't come out too well, will have to take more. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a pic of my tin snipping area! The family room floor!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oWLR_fCEAAs/UDPVjkbtNrI/AAAAAAAABO8/JrtfwMyM8Lg/s1600/100_3949.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oWLR_fCEAAs/UDPVjkbtNrI/AAAAAAAABO8/JrtfwMyM8Lg/s320/100_3949.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It worked! The tin I found at Lowes in the flashing/roofing section. It was $9 for a sheet 24x24. So not too bad. I used the sticky squares from the cork to attach. Worked out fine. I really don't think DH thought I could do this on my own. But I did! Now on to another project.<br />
<br />
I wonder how a mason jar pendant would look here...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-usrnV396Dqw/UDPWPoI_VpI/AAAAAAAABPE/5hqLPFm3I18/s1600/100_3953.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-usrnV396Dqw/UDPWPoI_VpI/AAAAAAAABPE/5hqLPFm3I18/s320/100_3953.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I may have to do more research!<br />
<br />
Have a great week,<br />

It is one of our favorite places. This summer DH decided we would go in the fall only. But I am missing me some Sierra Heaven. Here are a few pics to tempt you too!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was last fall. They had received their first snowfall a few days before. The steam coming off the lake was amazing. I love this pic!</div>

This is Gull Lake in the June Lake Loop. We went to enjoy the view after a good day of fishing. Love the sun on the water. Gorgeous!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a wonderful shot of Silver in the morning. When the water is so still and you can see Carson Peak's reflection. AAHH, so relaxing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All those pics were taken last fall when DH and I went on our fall fishing trip. DH has been going in the fall for years with the 'guys', but I could never go cause the kids were in Marching Band and your time is not yours till Thanksgiving! Since DD graduated last year I was able to go for the first time and it was awesome! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We caught this every day!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is Virginia Lake, further north. There was a foot of snow on the ground when we got there to fish. I caught my limit before DH even caught one! Love it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With scenery like this fishing is so relaxing!</div>
